America's top minor league sports city

Rochester, NY was recently named the top minor league sports city in America by Street and Smith's Sports Business Journal. This is due to the outstanding support its five teams receive. Those teams are the Red Wings (AAA baseball), Americans (AHL), Rhinos (USL Division 1 soccer), Knighthawks (National Lacrosse League) and Rattlers (Major League Lacrosse).

In light of this distinction, the CS Monitor provided some coverage. The article is a bit light with an error or two. One error is the 377,000 attendance number, that was the total attendance this season at that point. Still, it provides some well deserved attention.

With soccer specific Paetec Park nearing completion and the R.I.T. hockey team joining division one, the city's sports profile should only increase.
